A COMMUNITY tug-of-war will be held in Cheddon Fitzpaine where teams from five parishes will go head-to-head on Saturday, June 29.
Event organisers want teams of eight from Creech St Michael, North Curry, Ruishton, West Monkton, and Cheddon Fitzpaine to get involved in what is hoped will become an annual event at Maidenbrook Country Park.
Annabelle Peters, chairperson of Creech St Michael Parish Church, told the Free Press: “We are hoping that each parish will form a team of eight which will be tugging over a man-made pond - everyone will get wet.
“This is a free event for people in the parish and competing parishes to attend.”
Teams for the over 40s, under 40s, 12–16-year-olds and under 11s will compete for prizes and people are invited to bring a picnic, but vendors selling fish and chips, coffee/tea, soft drinks, ice creams and burgers will be there.
A maypole, coconut shy, face painting, ‘toss the welly’ and ‘toss the egg’, a skittle alley, stocks and sponges, Morris Dancers and a bouncy castle will also feature.
The park will be open at 12pm, competitions will start at 2.30pm and an open mic session will be held from 6pm-10pm.
