THERE was a full entry for Minehead and West Somerset Golf Club's Seniors Texas Scramble with the team of Dave Walmsley, Pete Heddercott and Phil Arbourne taking first place with a nett 62.
Second position with 64 was taken by Chris Durman, Peter Taylor and John Burrow, while Graham Troman, Tim Evans and Edward Frewin carded a 65 to take third place. Minehead Seniors hosted Fosseway in the Somerset Rose Bowl. Playing a foursomes matchplay format with a maximum handicap of 18, Minehead ran out 3-2 winners. Perfect weather for a welcome change on Friday announced the Metcalfe Cup; a Pinehurst Greensomes format. The decisive winners and pre-competition favourites with 46 points were Dave Oatridge and Graham Smith. The runners up with 40 points were Nigel Moore and Pete Heddercott while Steve Burns and Tony Connolly were third on 39.
Sadly, after a fine weekend, the weather has deteriorated this week with a strong wind being the biggest threat to low scoring - with rain also making conditions difficult for fair-weather golfers.
Many members cannot remember such a long spell of wet weather - with competitions being played in miserably conditions almost throughout the year.
