The organisers intend to hold it as a monthly event, taking place in different locations across Porlock Vale.
At the end of the year, they will publish the weight of items which have been restored and not ended up in landfill, to see the impact on Porlock Vale’s carbon footprint.
The Repair Café has a team of skilled volunteers who are giving their time to help repair items and save them from ending up in landfill.
The time taken to repair the items will be free - a small charge may be made for items required for the repair.
Volunteers ask for a voluntary contribution to help keep the Repair Café going. Visitors will be able to buy refreshments and cake while they wait they wait.
The Repair Café is being run by the local community project 4Rs Waste Reduction in Porlock Vale, a group of volunteers who aim to reduce waste by encouraging businesses and the public to Reduce, Reuse, Repair and Recycle.
The 4Rs project is a Porlock Parish Council and Coastal Communities team initiative, and has received funding from Somerset County Council.
It has achieved Plastic Free Status for Porlock Vale from Surfers Against Sewage and the Repair Café is its next mission.
The project can be found on Facebook - 4R’s Waste Reduction in Porlock Vale - or look out for posters for the latest updates and for information on the next Repair Café in Porlock Vale.
