Somerset's libraries have launched the 'summer reading challenge' to encourage children to read through the holidays.
The scheme is aged at children between the ages of four and eleven, and is ongoing online and at all Somerset Council libraries.
Dr Darren Smart, Strategic Manager for Library Services at Somerset Council, said: “The Summer Reading Challenge is a fantastic, free, and fun way to entertain children and encourages them to continue reading over the summer holidays, which helps them when they go back to school.
“Somerset Libraries are looking forward to welcoming more families this year, so come and sign up at your local library for free.”
The challenge is now in its 24th year, having started in 1999. Somerset Council says it: "Helps to improve children’s reading skills and confidence over the summer holidays, making sure they are ready for their return to school. With the help of local libraries, the Summer Reading Challenge is accessible to all and provides a fun, free activity for children."
