A CHOIR performance at a Minehead pub has raised £200 for a local food cupboard.
Minehead Street Choir celebrated the coming of Spring last week, on Thursday, March 13, descending upon The Quay Inn for a raucous evening of popular song to raise £191.50 for the West Somerset Food Cupboard (WSFC).
Lucy Henderson who sings with the choir and volunteers with the food cupboard, said: "It was a fabulous night at The Quay, choir members as well as guests and others dropping in."
West Somerset Food Cupboard team leader Sara Trigg added: "Thank you so much Minehead Street Choir.
“We greatly appreciate you thinking of us and I can assure you the money will be put to work supporting people that are struggling to make ends meet.
WSFC provides emergency food bags and links people in need with a relevant local agency which can help them identify and combat the causes of their food poverty.
It also runs a weekly Local Pantry which supports people with affordable food from supermarket surpluses through a £4 subscription scheme giving members access to about £25 worth of food.
Nigel Neill, who runs the Minehead Street Choir, said: “As always Colette Whiteoak and all her team at The Quay Inn made the Street Choir very welcome and a good time was had by all.”
The choir meets every Thursday evening at the United Reformed Church Hall on the junction of Bancks Street and Irnham Road, and welcomes anyone over the age of eighteen who enjoys relaxed singing with the odd harmony in a friendly inclusive setting. No auditions are necessary.
