West Somerset Railway’s Christmas plans include a new event this year – Winterlights – which will see steam locos and carriages lit up as they travel the WSR line after dark.
The series of 14 evening trains running from Bishops Lydeard to Crowcombe, will also give passengers festive displays to see along the way.
This is in addition to the WSR’s traditional ‘Santa Express’ daytime services from Bishops Lydeard to Williton, which will run on weekends in December.
Winterlights trains will run twice a night on Fridays and Saturdays from November 19 and Santa Express trains will start on Saturday, December 4.
Both services will also run on December 21, 22, 23 and Christmas Eve.
Tickets are the same price, £20 a head. Full details of both Winterlights and Santa Express are on the West Somerset Railway website.
WSR assistant general manager Kerry Noble said: “We expect our Winterlights trains to be popular with visitors and our workers alike as something new and a different, illuminating experience on the line.
“Our Christmas trains are vital to us because they provide a good income boost which assists us greatly in getting through the fallow winter period.
“Running successful events on the WSR always takes a lot of planning and effort, but none of this is achievable without the continuing help of our amazing team of volunteers and staff, many of whom have been working so hard to get us through the busy summer period.”
