SOMERSET Council has announced that recycling and waste collection days will change for more than 120,000 households in the county.
Each household affected will receive a letter in early January explaining their area’s new collection dates. Any household that has not received a letter by the end of January, will not be affected.
There will be no changes to collection days for garden waste subscribers, clinical waste collections, or communal property collections.
Residents may also have an additional one-off Saturday collection on either February 10, 17, or 24 as routes are changed. All details will be made clear in the letter.
The changes will begin as of Monday, February 12, and the rest of the county will receive collection date changes later in the year.
Residents may have a change to their collection day or week, depending on the area, but rubbish will still be collected once every three weeks.
The council have announced new collection days for Sedgemoor, West Somerset, and Taunton areas as a result of new collection routes being introduced.
New routes will be introduced by the council’s contractor, Suez recycling and recovery UK, which will make rounds more efficient and manageable for crews and will additionally reduce mileage and carbon emissions.
Somerset executive councillor Dixie Darch said: “Look out for your letter and service guide, take note of your collection day.
“If you don’t receive a letter this means that your day is staying the same.
“Please make a note of your new collection day and possible interim rubbish collection. “Crews can’t return for missed collections where bins are not out on the right day.
“The online collection day look-up feature will be updated from Monday February 12.
“Residents with questions about the changes can head to Somerset Council’s website for further information.”
