SIR — The front page of your issue last week has prompted me to write on all three of the main reports. Firstly, I am appalled by the proposed closure of the NatWest branch in Dulverton and agree with all the comments regarding the loss of trade in the area. As a Dulverton resident, I agree I will have a choice between Minehead or Tiverton in which to do my banking. If Minehead gets a Lidl there would be no contest as I would bank and shop in local stores and visit Lidl and Morrisons. However, if it does not, I would go to Tiverton for the bank, a wider range of local shops and Morrisons, and I could go a few miles along the lanes to Aldi in Collumpton. So come on councillors, seize the opportunity to bring more trade to Minehead. Secondly, re the cargo shed in Watchet Marina: I keep my boat in the marina, or I should say my boat is held captive by the marina mud. Now I find that not only am I a captive customer but my boat is going to be covered in dust and other residue from the unnecessary demolition of the cargo shed. Why cannot the council spend the £50,000 set aside to knock it down on a new roof then split the inside up into small units to be rented out to boat owners and locals alike for storage or small workshops? This would save all the hassle of moving boats and the disruption of the whole of the East Quay. It would also recoup the council's expenditure provide some much needed income and create some goodwill in Watchet rather than ongoing antagonism. Come on councillors, get your act together - look ahead, be positive. John Boyce, Bury Cottages, Dulverton.
