FIRE crews were called to tackle a chimney fire in a village near Dulverton on Monday (January 20).

Fire control dispatched an on-call crew from Bampton to a report of a fire in the Upton area.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said on its fire log: “Shortly after being in attendance crew confirmed that smoke was issuing from the roof space around the chimney and requested a second fire engine - this was mobilised from Tiverton.

“Crew successfully extinguished the fire using two hose reel jets, two thermal image cameras, two gas monitors, chimney rods, and a 135 ladder.”

The fire was reported shortly after 2pm and the incident was closed at around 7.50pm.
