WEST Somerset artist Annie Farley has won two awards for her animated film The Man Who Mends Things.

The awards, from the Frome International Climate Film Festival, were for ‘Director’s Director’ and ‘Best Film’, as chosen by the audience, and best film in the over-60s category.

Annie, from Roadwater, was supported to make the film through an artist in residency opportunity offered by Somerset Film.

The Bridgwater-based social enterprise charity, which serves the whole of Somerset with a programme of community engagement, talent development, and creative production, will be visiting West Somerset again on June 26 with a special taster day.

Creative director Deb Richardson said: “We have been working with young people through the BFI Film Clubs in Minehead recently.

“As Annie’s film success shows, it is not just young people who are creative with film and digital media or who have stories to tell.

“So we are planning a day to inspire older members of the local community.

“We will be bringing with us some short activities of creative technology using sound, animation and film for anyone aged sixty and over to come and try their hand at.

“We are looking forward to the conversations that will happen too and while we are there we would love to capture local stories about random acts of kindness from anybody who would like to contribute one.”

As well as offering an insight into its work, Somerset Film will be at the Beach Hotel from 10am to 4pm, showing archive film from the county and bringing equipment to help people digitise their photographs, 8mm film, and VHS tapes.

People can also turn up and ask a technical question about their camera, phone, or other digital device, and the team will do their best to answer it.

To become involved, people can just drop by at The Beach Hotel, Minehead on June 26t for free and do not need to book or have any previous experience.
