DULVERTON’S newly relaunched youth club got off to a flying start when around 60 young people and adults got together for a special open afternoon.
It heralded the start of youth club sessions this week for youngsters aged eight to 17, and the club building has been completely renovated and refurbished thanks to enthusiastic community effort.
The open afternoon, held at the Riverside Youth Centre in Kemps Way, included outdoor games of basketball and swing-ball as well as indoor ones on newly refurbished equipment, a barbecue, refreshments and a re-launch celebration cake.
The centre has been completely refurbished with the help of local people and businesses, generous donations, and a grant of nearly £5,500 from Somerset County Council towards running costs for the next 18 months.
This week saw the start of regular sessions for junior and senior age groups, with all kinds of activities planned.
Junior sessions for eight to 11-year-olds are on Wednesdays from 6pm to 7.30pm, and there is a call for older youngsters to join the senior sessions for 11 to 17-year-olds, on Thursdays and Fridays from 7pm to 9pm.
