MINEHEAD and Coast Development Trust, Somerset Wildlife Trust, the National Trust, and Exmoor National Park have once again teamed up to deliver a series of free nature-based events in Minehead throughout 2024.
Starting with a celebration of springtime and an exciting festival of blossom, the first event will take place in Blenheim Gardens on Saturday, April 27, between 11 am and 4 pm.
The free event will offer a variety of nature-based activities for all ages, including a Gruffalo wildlife story walk around Blenheim Gardens, citizen science activities, seashore safaris and a community picnic beneath the blossom, to tie in with the National Trust’s Festival of Blossom.
The National Trust’s Blossom programme is inspired by the Japanese ‘Hanami’ celebrations and seeks to inspire everybody to celebrate the blossom season and notice nature in this beautiful blossom spot in Minehead.
Development Trust project co-ordinator Zara Aitken said: “We are delighted to be working with some fantastic organisations to celebrate the joys of local nature and bring the community together for a day of free activities in Minehead’s beautiful Blenheim Gardens.”
Tying nature and creativity together, the Minehead Nature Watch event will deliver free poetry workshops and showcase winning poems from the 2023 Minehead Poetry Competition with poetry readings delivered on the bandstand in Blenheim Gardens.
Somerset Wilder Coast project manager Mark Ward said: “Somerset Wildlife Trust is excited to be part of these community events as part of our aim to get one in four people in the county taking positive action for nature and as part of our wider engagement with raising awareness of coastal wildlife and habitats in and around Minehead, supported by our funders from the Community Lottery Climate Action Fund and the HPC Community Fund.”
