THE Carhampton Bellringers are holding a dinner and auction of promises to raise money to service the bells in their church tower.

The six bells at the Church of St John the Baptist, Carhampton, were re-cast and rehung nearly a century ago, in 1928, and now need updated maintenance work by professional bell hangers.

Servicing the bells is expected to cost roughly £10,000 which the bellringers hope to raise with their dinner and auction evening on Saturday 16 November at Minehead Golf Club.

Auction lots include a range of activities such as a flight in a two-seater plane along the Somerset coast, boat trips and meals out, and items such as a Christmas hamper, a locally produced and prepared turkey, cakes and unique handmade items.

The dinner will begin at 6.30 pm with the auction to follow at 8.30pm.

Orders and payment for the dinner must be made by Tuesday, November 5, and anyone not wanting to attend dinner is welcome to come along to the auction only.

Commission (advance) bids are welcome, up to Friday, November 15.
