A LOCAL shanty crew will be singing in Porlock for an evening of friendship and song this November.
Lynmouth Shanty Crew are due to sing at Porlock Village Hall on Friday and Saturday, November 1-2, and will be joined by the DZ Buoys on the Saturday.
Minehead Lifeboat Station crew’s DZ Buoys recently met their counterparts from the Lynmouth Shanty Crew at Minehead’s historic boathouse in advance of their performances next month.
The crews recently met in Minehead Lifeboat Station to sing, swap tales and to continue the firm friendship struck up between the towns.
In many ways this could be considered a warm-up for the November 2 event at Porlock Village Hall, when Lynmouth will be performing Songs of the Sea with a little help from their friends.
The link between the two towns was firmly established with the heroic 1899 Louisa lifeboat pull over Countisbury Hill, Lynmouth, which led to the establishment of the lifeboat station in Minehead in 1901.
The two groups have sung together on a number of occasions including this year's fabulous Lynmouth Maritime Festival.
Tickets cost £13.50 and are available from Porlock Home and Hardware.
This event is in aid of Epic Gigability and Lynmouth Boathouse.
