A MINEHEAD theatre is set to screen a new film about the international champagne business, Veuve Clicquot.
The Regal Film Society, based at the Regal Theatre, will screen ‘Widow Clicquot’ on October 1 at 7.30pm.
‘Widow Clicquot’ uncovers the “dizzyingly political” story behind the Veuve Clicquot champagne family and business that began in the late 18th century.
The Regal Film society said: “Barbe-Nicole Ponsardin Clicquot was just 27 when her husband died, leaving her his ailing winery. She resisted buy-out offers from male competitors and instead transformed the winery into a thriving international champagne business — the first of its kind to be run by a woman.
“Steering the company through dizzying political and financial obstacles, she defied her critics and revolutionised the champagne industry to become one of the world's first great businesswomen.”
Tickets for Widow Clicquot cost £6 (Regal Film Society members, Students/ES40s £4) and may be booked in advance online and at the Regal box office on 01643 706430 between 9.30am and 12pm, Monday to Saturday.
Seasonal memberships for the Regal Film Society cost £16.50 for an individual and £27 for a couple.
