Firefighters rescued a woman trapped in a flat which was on fire at Norton Fitzwarren in the early hours of Sunday.
One crew from Taunton and the 'first away' on-call crew from Wellington were sent to the incident just after 3am.
The fire control room was told by police that a woman was on the phone saying she was trapped inside the flat.
When firefighters arrived fire could be seen in a top floor bedroom and an alarm was sounding.
Two firefighters entered the flat with a hose to tackle the fire and brought the woman out.
She was seen by paramedics, along with another woman was was treated for the effects of breathing smoke.
A spokesperson for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said the cause was accidental and the property was moderately damaged.
A statement from Wellington fire station on Sunday said: "Our first away supported our colleagues from Taunton in the early hours of this morning."
The fire service spokesperson said: "Crews were sent to a fire seen from a top floor window with an alarm sounding. Police phoned to confirm they had a female on the phone to their control room who was trapped inside the flat.
"Crews arrived on scene and entered the property using 2 breathing apparatus and 1 hose reel jet. The female was rescued from the flat and attended to by paramedics, with one further female with smoke inhalation.
"Crews increased breathing apparatus to 4 on arrival of further appliances, and put the fire out using 2 hose reel jets. The fire was found to be in the bedroom.
"Crews used positive pressure ventilation to clear the property of smoke. The cause was deemed as accidental ignition and the flat suffered moderate damage."
