A FLOOD alert has been issued across parts of West Somerset with residents warned to “be prepared.”
Issuing the alert, the Environment Agency warned that flooding of low lying lands and roads near the Washford River remained possible.
The river was level was said to remain high, though falling gradually, with only light rain forecast on Wednesday.
In guidance last updated on Tuesday morning, the Environment Agency said: “We will continue to monitor the rainfall and water levels closely and are checking weed screens and rivers for blockages.
“Please avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses, and remain aware of water levels and weather conditions. You should avoid walking, cycling or driving through flood water.
“The alert area includes the Rivers Aller and Washford, and the hawkcombe, Monksilver and Doniford Streams and tributaries.”
The Met Office has forecast light rain on Wednesday and Thursday, before the weather gives way to drier conditions next week.
