TWO local supermarket teams will be battling it out at Minehead Football Ground tomorrow (Sunday August 19) to help give a nine-year-old cancer sufferer and her family the holiday of a lifetime.
Starting at 5.30pm, the match, between teams from Morrisons and Tesco, is in aid of Abi’s Fund – Minehead girl Abi Ford has been battling cancer since March and her dearest wish is to visit Disneyland when she is strong enough.
The match is just one of the fundraising events organised by the staff of Morrisons, Minehead, and which has already raised over £2,000 to fund the holiday for Abi and her family.
Parking and entry to the football ground are free. The clubhouse and the tea hut will be open for refreshments.
There will be a bucket collection and raffle tickets on sale at £1 each, for the prize of a cut and blow-dry, worth over £130, by Bristol-based Trevor Sorbie, top senior stylist, and salon director Gerald Smith.
After her first month’s treatment at Bristol Children’s Hospital, Abi is now travelling to Musgrove Hospital, Taunton, for ongoing chemotherapy which will take over two years.
When she is stronger she hopes to be able to visit Disneyland.
Morrisons have raised over £2,000 so far by car washes, head shaves, and other fund-raising schemes.
