MINEHEAD fund-raiser Donna Archer lost her long hair for a good cause when 14 inches were cut off to provide wigs for children who have lost their own hair through cancer treatment and other conditions.

Chopping off Donna’s fair locks, her pride and joy for years, also raised £300 for the Little Princess Trust, which has provided free wigs of real hair for youngsters since 2005.

Each wig costs about £500 to make.

Donna, 57, who works for Minehead YMCA, is also organising a charity bingo and raffle night at Minehead Social Club on Sunday, May 5.

She said: “Several of my family and friends, including children, have been victims of cancer and the Little Princess Trust is doing a wonderful job and needs all the help it can get.”

Donna entrusted the job to Gail Barrett, owner of Shades, Minehead, and hairdresser Charlene Mills.

“I’ve always had long hair and naturally I was a bit nervous about losing it, but I was also excited about having a completely new style,” Donna said.

“In fact, I really like the new shoulder-length style and intend to keep my hair like that, particularly as people have said it makes me look younger!

“This is a charity which seems to really touch people’s hearts and I was glad I was able to raise money for it and give myself a new look as well.”
