A MAN who tried to stab to death a man he believed was having a relationship with his ex-partner in Wiveliscombe on New Year’s Day has been jailed for 16 years.
Jacob Davey attacked the other man in front of his disabled mother at their home in Tuckers Meadow in the early hours of the morning.
The victim, known only as ‘Jake’ and aged 40, was left with permanent scars and still suffers nightmares, while his mother no longer likes to be left alone after dark.
Davey, 31, of Langley Marsh Road, Wiveliscombe, believed the victim was having a relationship with his ex-partner and entered the home at about 6.15am wearing stockings to cover his head and face.
Inside the property Davey struggled with the victim in the hallway and stabbed him multiple times in the head and in the upper body as the victim’s mother looked on.
One stab wound punctured the victim’s lung.
As well as the jail term handed down at Bristol Crown Court last Thursday (July 28), Davey was ordered to spend a further four years on extended licence, bringing the sentence to 20 years.
He pleaded guilty to attempted murder.
The victim was rushed by ambulance with serious injuries to Musgrove Park Hospital, Taunton.
He was left with several scars and his chest often ‘gets tight’.
Avon and Somerset Police lead investigating officer DC Karen Pattison said after the case it had been a ‘savage, unprovoked attack launched on a defenceless victim’ in front of his disabled mother.
DC Pattison said the attack had an impact on the wider community, which was ‘a small, quiet, close-knit village’.
She said: “The scars are a permanent reminder to the victim and he hates to look in the mirror because seeing them remind him how close he came to dying that night.
“He suffers nightmares and has become more wary of people now, especially those with face masks on.
“He no longer wants to go out after dark and his mum, for whom he is her sole carer, does not like to be left on her own at night.
“However, the sentence has given Jake the courage to move on and not let this incident stop him from living his life.
“This now gives them closure and they are able to feel safe in their home once more.”
