Motorists are being sent on a 10-mile diversion through West Somerset due to a road closure to mend a leak at a house between Blue Anchor and Carhampton.

Carhampton Road was due to be shut at the junction with Wood Lane for three days from Tuesday morning with an emergency closure order in place.

The closure is need for Wessex Water to carry out work following a leak at a domestic property. Emergency services will not be able to get through during the closure.

To get around the closure, traffic from Carhampton is being sent down the A39 to Washford, and then past Tropiquaria and along Washford Hill to Watchet.

The diversion route then follows the coast road to Blue Anchor, a total distance of 15.6km, equal to 9.7miles.
