The hardest driving theory test question has been revealed by the AA.

The AA Driving School analysed 5.5 million answers from its Driving Theory Test App to discover the trickiest questions to answer correctly.

The hardest question is: You have stopped in an emergency area. What must you do before you rejoin the carriageway?

The multiple choice answers are: a. Use the emergency telephone. b. Give an arm signal as you are moving off. c. Switch on your vehicle's headlights. d. Move away with your hazard lights on.

55.3 per cent of respondents answered this question incorrectly, based on usage of the app during the first year.

The correct answer is: a. Use the emergency telephone.

To rejoin the carriageway from an emergency area, you must use the emergency telephone and follow the operator's advice. A lane may have to be closed so that you can rejoin the carriageway safely.

The AA Driving School Theory App launched in October 2023. It contains more than 700 theory questions and extensive hazard perception clips.
