A NEW Scout Troop has opened in Williton which is on the lookout for more enthusiastic young adventurers to get involved.
Scouting is all about encouraging young people from 1- to 14 to try, see and do more. It provides them with the chance to dream big, find their place, be accepted, and make memories and friends that will last a lifetime.
The 1st Williton Scouts now meets on Monday evenings between 7pm and 8.30pm and has a programme of activity for next year including expeditions and camps.
In a recent poll 94 per cent of Scouts said they had developed useful skills and 88 per cent said they’ve tried activities they haven’t tried before. Scouts offers more than 200 activities from abseiling and coding to drama and water-zorbing.
Chief scout Dwayne Fields said: ‘’I’m incredibly pleased that the 1st Williton Scouts have opened. This means we will now have more young people in the local community making friends, building their confidence, and gaining skills that will prepare them for life and work.
“They’ve recruited some fantastic volunteers, engaged local families and members of the community. Most importantly, they’ve created some incredible opportunities for fun, adventure and friendship for young people who live locally.
“It’s vital our young people get the encouragement and support they deserve to help them find their place in the world and become the active citizens of the future.
“When I was young, as quite a shy kid, I remember walking into my local Scout meeting place and getting such a warm welcome. I found people who believed in me, and that helped me believe in myself. This set me a path to adventure – taking me to Antarctica, the Galapagos Islands and even the North Pole.
“What made the difference were inspirational volunteers who became role models for me. I’ll also never forget the kindness and friendship of the other Scouts.”
People who have a child wanting to go on an adventure or adults wanting to help create these adventures are invited along to join in the activities and find out more. Contact [email protected] for more information.
