OLD Cleeve First School, in Washford, has signed up with recycling company

TerraCycle to become a community collection point for a host of items that could be given a new life.

All brands of crisp packets, Pringles tubes and lids, biscuit and cake wrappers, cat and dog food foil sachets, toothpaste tubes and old toothbrushes plus used biros and felt tip pens may be taken to the school.

Members of the school’s Eco-Club sort the items into the correct boxes to be sent away for shredding and turned into new products, including garden furniture and fence posts.

And the PTA will benefit from cash rewards as points build up over time for each batch sent away.

“This new scheme has started off well and the children enjoy playing a big part in reducing waste to landfill and littering,” said recycling lead Keith Hunt.

“Old Cleeve School is the main collection point for the area but we are looking for drop-off points around the area to make it easier for people to join in with our scheme.”
