AT least two gardens will be open to the public tomorrow (May 6) to raise funds for charity.

The garden at Aller Farm, in Capton, just outside Williton, will be open to the public on Sunday (May 6) in aid of St Margaret’s Hospice.

And Hartwood House, Crowcombe, will welcome garden-loving visitors to support the Red Cross.

Aller Farm’s sunny south-facing garden is surrounded by stone walls and sub-divided into five separate areas.

The cliff garden is a three-sided quarry with old magnolias, figs and Judas trees, as well as some newer acacias. There are many unusual or tender plants to spot including different varieties of echiums.

Aller Farm garden will be open from 2pm until 5.30pm and entrance is £4, free for under 16s. Well-behaved dogs on leads are welcome.

Tea, coffee and cakes will be available and there will be a plant stall courtesy of Wibble Farm Nurseries. Toilets are available on site, and some areas of the gardens are wheelchair friendly.

St Margaret’s Hospice is a registered charity which last year cared for over 3,800 people across Somerset.

Over 30 gardens across Somerset will be opening this summer for the St Margaret’s Hospice Open Gardens scheme to help raise vital funds for the hospice. More information can be found on the website www.somerset-hospice.org.uk.

** THE garden at Hartwood House, Crowcombe, will be open on Sunday (May 6) in support of the Red Cross.

There will be a plant stall and cream teas while the garden is open between 2pm and 5pm. Admission £4, children go in free. Dogs on leads are welcome.

Owner David Freemantle said: After a slow start, the garden is coming into full flower with rhododendrons  catching up with the camellias. The woodland is full of bluebells and primroses with orchid leaves popping up all over the place.”

There is plenty of parking, and Hartwood House, postcode TA4 4BS, is signposted off the A358.
