Rebellion brewing over Minehead BID
Editor,
It looks like a rebellion is brewing in Minehead over the perceived lack of achievement by the BID. Apparently a group of levy payers are urging others to vote down the BID in a forthcoming ballot.
It appears that local business people are angry that while the ambition of BID is to benefit Minehead as a whole, only a proportion of those businesses are carrying the full financial burden. The rebels, quite fairly, are asking why this should be the case.
Other complaints centre around a perceived town council influence and what they say is the questionable allocation of BID funds to items previously paid for by the council.
By far the most vociferous complaint is the allegation that BID has been only too willing to put in the bailiffs to recover the levy from those businesses who don’t want to be involved and see no benefit.
Leaflets have been printed and are currently being distributed around the town. A website has been set up at www.againstbid.org/minehead and www.facebook.com/KickOutMineheadBID. Expect this one to run, folks.
