PLANS have been submitted to expand the Oakfield Business Park in Norton Fitzwarren.

The small business park, nestled among residential buildings on Wiveliscombe Road in the west of the village, is used for light industry and storage.

The owner of the 7,950 square metre site is now looking to expand its storage facilities with the creation of new units.

Writing to planners at Somerset Council, architects Stone and Partners said the works would involve extended an existing single storey steel framed structure with six additional back-to-back bays, maintaining the same profile as the existing structure.

They also hope to extend a second storage building on the site with three additional bays, on the same basis.

The site currently accommodates a number of local businesses, including Oakfields Carpentry and a scrap metal recycling company.

An ecologist from the council stipulated existing hedgerows must be protected if and when works take place.

Somerset Council is aiming to reach a decision on the application by July.
