Police are appealing for witnesses after a shotgun cartridge was thrown at a member of the public.
The alleged incident took place on the A39 near Washford. An occupant of a silver Land Rover travelling toward Minehead was reported to have launched the missile at a bystander waiting at a bus stop at the junction with Quarry Road.
Fortunately the cartridge did not explode after being thrown, and no injuries were sustained as a result of the incident. Police have also confirmed that no firearm was seen during the incident.
A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police said: "Officers are carrying out enquiries, including reviewing CCTV footage, as part of our ongoing investigation. We’d like to reassure the public that no firearm was seen during this incident.
"Officers are appealing for information and witnesses after receiving reports of a silver Land rover travelling in the area towards Minehead, where an occupant of the vehicle has thrown a shotgun cartridge at a member of public who was waiting at the bus stop.
"If you have information regarding this incident or had witnessed it, or that a similar incident has occurred in the area, please contact police on 101 and quote reference 5223142272."
Police inquiries remain ongoing.
