The pool table has returned to the Washford Inn ‘by popular demand’.
Steve Flack, who runs the pub with his partner Neasha Watts said: “It’s now back by popular demand. The response has been better than we thought it’d be, a couple of locals are looking at setting up a pool league.”
Before working in hospitality, Steve was a train operator on the London underground. He and his partner moved to Somerset 3 years ago, and took over the pub. The new landlords brought in a pool table, but then the Covid lockdown came.
Steve said: “We took over 3 years ago and we had the pool table put in straight away and then we got put into lockdown. There was social distancing and people were cautious to play it, so we focussed on the restaurant.”
In a social media post announcing the return of the pool table, commenters were keen to have a go on the £1 per game table. The game joins a darts board and skittle alley as the latest form of entertainment on offer at the Washford Inn.
Steve and Neasha are hoping to “bring the pub back to how it was 10 or 12 years ago” when “apparently there were ques around the block to get in.”
To that end the duo have put on a pub quiz every other Wednesday which Steve said “Is so popular you have to book to get in” and are hosting live bands once a month.
Steve is also looking at a having a new TV to broadcast sports.
The Washford Inn serves food too. Steve told me: “We’ve got a great chef, food wise it’s fantastic, there’s a new menu out at the moment, and a valentines menu.”
