MP for Tiverton and Minehead Rachel Gilmour praised the “excellent” NHS services available at Williton Community Hospital on a recent visit.
Mrs Gilmour met with members of staff at Williton Community hospital, where she spoke with staff about the services provided by the hospital and across the NHS Somerset Foundation Trust on Wednesday (February 19).
The hospital, which has a stroke rehabilitation unit, as well as offering ambulatory care and chemotherapy services, plays a vital role locally for residents in West Somerset.
Mrs Gilmour (Lib Dem) also discussed the fantastic community work carried out by the Williton Hospital League of Friends, who have been donating equipment, raising funds, and providing grants to support Williton Community Hospital’s staff and patients.
Ms Gilmour said: “Williton Community Hospital plays a crucial role in the West Somerset community. This service provider offers vital treatment for residents at a local level, which is especially important considering that transport infrastructure is not always good enough to travel to and from appointments in Taunton and beyond.
“I have had a wonderful time this morning visiting Williton Community Hospital, and I am proud to support our excellent local NHS service providers, like this one in Williton, across our constituency.”
Hayley Smith-Lester, matron at Williton Community Hospital, said: “It was a pleasure to welcome Rachel to the hospital.
“Senior sister Sharon Stone and I showed her our facilities and described the services that we provide to the local community.
“Our colleagues at the hospital spoke passionately about the difference that they make for local people and we are very grateful to the local MP for her interest.”
The Williton Hospital League of Friends have an AGM at the Brendan Room, Williton Pavilion on Monday, March 10 commencing at 11am, with tea and coffee from 10.30am.
