SOMERSET Council has partnered with Kiely Bros to launch the next phase of its road surface treatment schedule across the county this week.
A closure of the A396 Wheddon Cross to Bridgetown Road will be affected between the 15-16 August, from 7am to 7pm.
This year’s program is the largest in at least four years, with 1,000,000 square meters of road surface set to be dressed. This eco-friendly and cost-effective maintenance method improves the road network while significantly reducing carbon emissions compared to other solutions.
Following extensive pre-patching and preparation work throughout spring and early summer, road surface specialist Kiely Bros, who signed a four-year contract in April, is now executing the Council’s extensive surface dressing program on major roads, minor roads, and residential streets over the coming weeks.
Somerset Council’s Lead Member for Highways and Digital, Councillor Richard Wilkins said: “Kiely Bros offers a specialist, efficient, high-tech approach which will see the biggest surfacing dressing programme in years.”
“This underlines our commitment to major investment in our roads and infrastructure to keep the county running.“
“Surface dressing and surface treatments are critically important when it comes to prolonging the life of our roads, and prevents the need for more invasive and costly intervention, it also reduces the likelihood of potholes forming.”
Work is weather-dependent, and schedules may change at short notice. Work is being conducted under short-term road closures or stop-go signs, with closures limited to one day within the stated period.
Communities and road users will receive advanced notice.
