Cowbridge Sawmill and Forge, Timberscombe, will be open to the public once again on Saturday and Sunday (September 11 and 12) as part of the National Heritage Open Days.
The mill dates from the 14th century and has been restored as a working Heritage Sawmill by the owner, Owen Rush, with the help of a growing band of volunteers.
Visitors usually expect a ‘quick look round’ but are often still on site several hours later, as the outward appearance gives no hint of the hive of activity inside.
In addition to the restoration of the 14ft waterwheel and the working mill machinery, which will be demonstrated by a guide, the site also displays a wide range of agricultural machinery and tools.
Attractions over the weekend will include blacksmiths working in the forge and other craft displays. Guided tours will be available from 11am to 4.30pm each day – no need to book; several guideswill be on the go at any one time.
Visitors are asked to wear a face covering, except when eating. Tea, coffee and cakes will be available. Parking and admission are free but donations are much appreciated.
Cowbridge Sawmill is two miles from Dunster at the junction of A396 and Wootton Courtenay Road.
