St Margaret's Hospice is set to hosts its second annual Santa abseil to celebrate the festive season.

The event will see participants - dressed as Santa Claus - abseil a 60ft height down Cheddar Gorge, an opportunity the charity described as a great 'early Christmas present.'

The abseil will take place on December 2, with tickets priced at £35 if you pledge to raise £125 in sponsorship for the charity. St Margaret's says £125 will fund more than two hours of specialist nursing care in the hospice's in-patient unit.

Rebecca Gordon and her son, Alex, two more Santa’s who were inspired to take on the challenge last year in memory of husband and father, Kevin, who was supported by St Margaret’s Hospice after he was diagnosed with motor neurone disease. St Margaret’s Hospice nurses supported Kevin and Rebecca at the hospice’s in-patient unit where Kevin spent his final days and gave them the chance to cuddle up together one last time. 

 Rebecca said the support St Margaret’s Hospice gave to her family ‘saved everything’ and she jumped at the chance when the opportunity came up to take part in the abseil as she wanted to give something back to the hospice. Rebecca said. “I’d faced my greatest fear when I lost the love of my life, so I knew I could abseil down Cheddar Gorge.  I felt excited the whole way down and was so proud when we reached the bottom!”
