STRICTLY Come Dancing winner Chris McCausland will brings his stand-up show Yonks! to the Minehead Regal Theatre next May.

The comedian, who is the first blind winner of the hit BBC show, has seen his show sell out twice already - so a third set has been added.

Both of these shows were booked for May 25, but now Chris has offered to give a third performance on the same day to give as many of his fans as possible the chance to see him live.

Chris has been performing stand-up for two decades and regularly appears on TV in flagship comedy shows such as Have I Got News for You, 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown, Would I Lie to You and QI.

He was also the host of a four-part travelog series on Channel 4 entitled The Wonders of the World I Can't See.

McCausland hosts BBC Radio 4 You Heard It Here First, which is a panel game about sound clips, and has made appearances on other Radio 4 shows Room 101 and The Museum of Curiosity.

The connection with the Regal Theatre came through Trish Caller, from Taunton-based company Genius PR and Events, who is also behind a successful new run of comedy nights at the theatre.

Despite never having danced before, Chris and his dance partner Dianne Buswell won the coveted glitterball trophy during the Strictly Come Dancing finals on Saturday, December 14, against strong competition.

Wowing a legion of new fans with his fancy footwork, Chris was described as ‘a light that shines for all to see’.

His amazing performance has captured the hearts of millions and boosted ticket sales for his UK tour.

Theatre volunteer Chris Rendell said: “We're really looking forward to welcoming Chris McCausland to the Regal.”

“It will be a stretch for our volunteers to cover three shows on May 25, but we’re confident that our box office, front of house, technical and bar volunteer teams are up for it and will make sure that the day goes smoothly for Chris’s show.

“Of course we’re always looking for new volunteers to join us, so perhaps now is the time to get in touch.”

Regal Theatre chairperson Victoria Thomas said: “For a community theatre like the Regal, which is entirely run by volunteers, to be heading for three sell-out performances in one day, five months in advance, is fantastic.

“It has given us a huge boost and I know all our volunteers will do their very best to make it a successful day. We’re sending our congratulations to Chris McCausland for his amazing success on Strictly, and we look forward to welcoming him next May when he brings some of his magic stardust to the Regal.

“If anyone would like to have an informal chat about joining us as a volunteer in one of the many roles it takes to run a busy theatre, just email [email protected] and, if you would like a ticket for Chris McCausland’s performance of Yonks! at 1pm on May 25, you’d better be quick before it sells out.”
