SIR — On Tuesday December 11 I withdrew some money from the bank then called into the post office and purchased 50 stamps and then to Morrisons, Minehead, to purchase a present for my handicapped daughter. I was in the store from about 4pm until 4.30.

When I got outside, I had no wallet and no stamps. I immediately returned and asked if they had been handed in and was told that the supervisor found the stamps intact on the floor by the check-out, but no wallet!

The wallet contained cash, bank cards and store cards, also personal phone numbers including my own.

I am a 79-year old pensioner. You can imagine how very stressed I became. Had it not been for the kindness of the supervisor who kept me calm, ordered me a taxi and supplied me with money to get back home, I don't know what I could have done.

Naturally I did what I think I had to do and that was to return the taxi fare. John the taxi driver was very kind and a real gentleman. Thank you John.

What a difference to the person who found and kept the wallet, who didn't have the decency to hand it in. I can tell you I have had many sleepless nights since.

How anyone can be so thoughtless, dishonest and so despicable is beyond me. The culprit should be ashamed. Thank you for ruining my Christmas. I have no doubt that you will enjoy yours at my expense. Had you done the decent thing and handed it in intact, you would have been thought well of and rewarded.
