Pop legend Chesney Hawkes is on the bill for the 90s Reloaded Big Weekender at Butlin's in Minehead at the end of January. Hawkes will be joined on stage at the Somerset holiday park venue by big names from the 1990s including Boyzlife, East 17, N-Trance, Betty Boo and Dick and Dom.
The 51-year-old English singer Chesney Hawkes shot to fame with his 1991 single The One and Only which has become an anthem of the era. The single later featured in a series of films - in the opening credits of Doc Hollywood in 1991 starring Michael J Fox, the 2009 movie Moon as the song a character wakes up to every morning, and the 2011 film source code as a character’s mobile phone ringtone.
The list of appearances at the event released by Butlin's features Boyzlife, Cleopatra, Chesney Hawkes, East 17, Dick & Dom DJ Set, Anita Doth, Honeyz, N-Trance, Betty Boo, Symphonic Ibiza, Kevin & Perry DJ Set, Alison Limerick, Club De Fromage, with more to be announced.
The weekend, from January 27 to 30, starts with an opening party on the Friday night and includes a Britney Spears tribute and comedian Bobby Davro.
A Butlin’s spokesperson said: “It’s the decade that introduced the non-stop rave and had you rocking out to indie, bouncing to Britpop, and blowing your whistles to techno. Relive the party at Butlin's!”
The company says: “In the heart of Exmoor, Somerset, our Minehead resort is home to our arena where, for special breaks, our Skyline Pavilion is transformed into a 5000 seat arena.”
More details are available on the Butlin's website.
Lyrics of The One and Only
Written by Nik Kershaw
I am the one and only, oh yeah
Call me, call me by my name or call me by number
You put me through it
I'll still be doing it the way I do it
And yet, you try to make me forget
Who I really am, don't tell me I know best
I'm not the same as all the rest
I am the one and only
Nobody I'd rather be
I am the one and only
You can't take that away from me
I've been a player in the crowd scene
A flicker on the big screen
My soul embraces one more in a million faces
High hopes and aspirations, and years above my station
Maybe but all this time I've tried to walk with dignity and pride
I am the one and only
Nobody I'd rather be
I am the one and only
You can't take that away from me
I can't wear this uniform without some compromises
Because you'll find out that we come
In different shapes and sizes
No one can be myself like I can
For this job I'm the best man
And while this may be true
You are the one and only you
I am the one and only
Nobody I'd rather be
I am the one and only
You can't take that away from me
I am the one and only
Nobody I'd rather be
I am the one and only
You can't take that away from me
