MORE than 100 visitors dropped in to the Regal Theatre, Minehead for the theatre’s Open Day on Saturday. October 15, welcoming.
A spokesperson said: “Unashamedly luring in visitors by promises of cake, over 100 visitors - some well-established local people; others new to the area - were keen to find out more about all the Regal has to offer, whether via the theatre’s extensive programme of music, dance theatre, opera and more, or becoming involved ‘behind the scenes’.
“Uniquely run entirely by volunteers, the Open Day was a great opportunity to showcase the theatre and recruit new volunteers.”
Sixty people enjoyed the guided tours which took more intrepid visitors to see some of the otherwise unvisited areas, from where the magic of sound, light and music emerge; see the refurbished dressing room spaces, and hear some of the challenges faced over Covid when the theatre installed a new roof and heating/ventilation system.
Visitors were amazed to learn that new spotlight cost almost £3,000 each - and that the Regal now needs at least three now spots.
The Open Day prompted interest from over a dozen new would-be volunteers as well as 20 people interested in knowing more about forthcoming events - and at least six new Friends signed up too.
