WATCHET Music Festival returns once again today (Friday) until Sunday and the excitement is brewing.

However, it will be the last year of the festival before a 12-month hiatus.

Festival organisers Mike and Jackie Bale said: “The ever-increasing costs involved with running an event like ours has become extremely challenging during these turbulent times.

“We must try and continue to keep presenting quality music at Watchet festival for our customers, providing value for money while sticking to our budget, all while staying within the boundaries of the ethos of our community interest company (CIC).”

The non-profit event is run by Watchet LIVE CIC with all the profits made going to local causes and providing other free admission events for the community.

Some of the causes the festival has donated to include the Children’s Hospice South-West, Elliot’s Touch, Stand Against Speed 4 Bethany, and 1st Watchet Sea Scout Group.

Headlining today will be Rock ‘N’ Roll Hall of Fame inductee Belinda Carlisle, the American singer probably best known for ‘Heaven Is a Place on Earth’, which reached number one in the UK in 1987.

Tomorrow (Saturday) will be headlined by Scottish rock band The Fratellis, who boast multiple Top 10 hits including Chelsea Dagger and Whistle for the Choir.

The festival will be wrapped up on Sunday by Level 42, a band from the Isle of Wight with numerous hits worldwide, including ‘Lessons in Love’ and ‘Something about You’.

Other notable acts performing include The Wurzels, Scouting for Girls, Odyssey, Alabama 3 and Sleeper.
