SOME 99 tractors and a couple of 4x4s descended on the Nether Stowey area when the farming community supported Terry Ayre’s annual Toolands Trundle.
The farmers, friends and enthusiasts came from as far afield as Cornwall and Bristol to follow a route of some 20 miles in their vehicles.
This year, the 12th in succession, some £2,100 was raised which will be donated to the Marion Evered Trust Fund and once again be given to the children’s cancer ward at Musgrove Park Hospital at Taunton.
The fund was originally set up after Arthur and Pauline Barrow tragically lost their daughter Tracey to leukaemia back in 1972. Marion, her 97-year-old grandmother, still attends the event.
Members of the Barrow family – son, grandsons and wives – were at Halsey Cross Farm, the trundle’s starting point and home of Raymond and Freda Barrow.
This year, much more off-road was involved but still many people came out of their houses to watch the procession and make donations.
The route went through Fiddington, Stogursey, Bruton, past HPC, Shurton, Lilstock, Kilve, Holford, Stringston, up to the Quantock Hills to a chilly Dead Woman’s Ditch and finally down to Over Stowey for lunch.
Terry and his band of some 12 helpers wish to thank everyone involved for their help and continued support.
