WITH a range of events almost every weekday and a programme of free theatre, music, and creativity, Watchet’s East Quay arts centre is set to be the perfect family destination for the summer holidays, the venue’s organisers announced this week.
A programme of family and children’s workshops will run throughout the school summer holidays, from Monday to Thursday from 11 am to 1 pm, and there is no need to book.
Each week, there will be a new arts theme to explore.
Week one (July 24-28) will look at science and art, with activities from painting sci-fi figures to rocket-building.
Week two (July 31-Aug 4) will explore the world of numbers and art with optical paper weaving, spirograph art, and paper orb making.
The following weeks’ programmes will include words and art, weather and art, nature and art, and the last week of the holidays will feature recycling and art.
There will also be bookable workshops on Fridays, including sessions on satellite postcards, repeating patterns, graffiti word art, cyanotype workshops, felting and collagraph workshops.
A programme of free theatre and circus activities, with a performance of Hero and Leander, by Jack Dean and Company, will be held on Saturday, August 5, Many Hands Circus on Saturday, August 12, and the Pleasure Dome Theatre Company os back with its production of Treasure Island on Wednesday, August 16.
Other events will include satellite gazing with artist Nye Thompson on the roof terrace at East Quay, where the cost of a ticket includes a hot chocolate, and a high tea for the
