West Somerset is set to narrowly escape storms which are forecast across much of the country this weekend.

The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for thunderstorms stretching down to the River Parrett.

The warning is set to come into force on Saturday June 10 at 2pm and end at 9pm on the same day.

Residents in the affected area have been cautioned to expect some chance of quick flooding, damage to buildings power cuts and delays to rail services.

The alert comes ahead of high temperatures predicted over the weekend, which prompted a separate alert to be issued for heat.

This weekend's alert comes into force at 9am on Friday, June 9, and is set to end at 9am on Monday, June 12. Over this period there is said to be an increased risk to individuals over the age of 65 or those with pre-existing conditions.
