I was totally dismayed to find that I could not purchase even the smallest flag to celebrate St George’s Day.
I was informed at Morrisons, who were displaying little cards on fixtures which said “Celebrate St George’s Day” that they would be giving away roses on the day, What on earth has a rose to do with our traditional celebration?
On Monday - St George’s Day and The Bard’s birthday, I strolled around Minehead thinking there would be bunting and flags flying (they don’t cost much) but nothing,
That is until I walked by the St Margaret’s Hospice charity shop window - was it an hallucination or mirage? No, it was a white flag with a red cross. I couldn’t believe it.
So well done to St Margaret’s, its nice to know there are still a few proud English people living in Minehead.
Of course, St Michael’s Church had the flag flying too as usual.
