KINGSBROMPTON Young Farmers Club presented cheques to two worthy causes at its AGM on September 18.
The YFC donated £1,100 to The Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance which was raised by carol signing, cooking full English breakfast for 100 people and putting on a drama performance.
And £500 was given to Aid for Samburu, a charity set up by Anstey couple Richard Gibson and his wife Heather.
Richard appeared on the BBC 2 programme 'The Toughest Place to Be a Farmer'. He was sent to Northern Kenya where he lived with a family in the Samburu tribe - who had not see any rain for a year.
Richard was invited to speak to Kingsbrompton YFC and the members were so inspired they decided to hold a disco to help raise money for the provision of sustainable water.
Kingsbrompton YFC is one of the oldest clubs in Somerset, having been founded in 1933 when it held its own show and sale of calves in the auction field.
To celebrate their 80th anniversary, the members are holding a dinner and dance in Brompton Regis Village Hall on Saturday October 26 for all past and current members and anyone who would like to help celebrate the achievement.
