OTHER than politics nothing seems to divide people more than those who walk dogs, those who don’t, and the fallout in between - especially on social media.

Is it me, or have dog owners become particularly entitled now? I love dogs and grew up with them but Facebook appears to be full of people venting over their ‘rights’ when walking dogs, when or when a dog shouldn’t approach theirs, and flippantly dismissing someone who didn’t want to be approached by their beloved pet.

There was a case where a man was taking ‘selfies’ with a large, popular breed inside a children’s playground near my home. Dogs can turn, no matter how friendly someone may think they are, but it seems many feel they’re more than just animals.

And there are plenty of examples where other owners have been called out on social media for being wronged in some way, only to become aggressive to those who don’t agree with their point of view.

Of course, this didn’t happen while I was growing up because there was no Facebook and people settled the dispute in a civilised manner, there and then, without the need to become aggressive behind a keyboard, on the internet.
