In a time of recession and a cost of living crisis, everyone is looking to make savings and so it’s good to know there’s a Black November Christmas Tree Sale now on at Plants Galore’s Somerset Christmas Tree Centre near Martock.
Plants Galore co-owner Tony Joyner commented: “During November we offer a real 6ft to 7ft Nordman low needle drop Christmas Tree for just £19.95. At this price I feel confident to say that you won’t buy a better value for money Christmas tree anyway in the Southwest of England.”
“People are obviously a bit stunned when they come in and see how good the trees are and ask how can we be so cheap on prices. The answer is that we work very hard every year to cut out the entire UK middleman distribution chain and instead source our 25,000 Christmas trees direct from the specialist growers we work with in Scotland, Denmark and from our own nurseries.
"By cutting out all these middlemen we can retail to the general public at virtually wholesale prices – we therefore sell a beautiful low needle drop Nordman Christmas tree at about half the price of a high street retailer, garden centre or Christmas Tree Farm.”
Plants Galore have grown to five huge Christmas Tree centres across Devon and Somerset, but everything started in a very small way 20 years ago at their Newton Abbot nursery.
“We started selling Christmas trees in 2004 and I remember buying 200 trees the first year and selling out fairly fast and thinking even then that we could sell Christmas trees in a big way if the price and quality were right. Since those early days, we have grown the Plants Galore business remarkably with centres at Plymouth, Totnes, Newton Abbot, Exeter and Yeovil.”
“We are now the region's number one independent Christmas tree retailer. Every year we try to do things better and improve our offer and this will continue.
"We have exciting plans for the future and a great young management team keen to expand the business with lots of new ideas. We need to keep offering real genuine value on great quality and let our customers decide for themselves if we are doing a good job. You can’t fool the customers – they know value and quality.“
For those customers worried about buying their tree in November, Tony has the following advice: “After buying your tree, stand it upright in the garden and water occasionally until you are ready to move it inside in December. The tree will be fine as long as it’s kept out in the cold.
"Once inside the house, then the tree will last longer if it is kept in a cool location. Heat and lack of water always cause needle drop, so always use a watering stand for your tree. You should then have a super quality tree all through Christmas for just £19.95.”
As well as Christmas Trees, Plants Galore have massive Christmas Lighting, Decoration and Floristry shops packed full of festive colour and inspiration.
There are lots of great ideas of how to decorate your tree, home, and garden. Customers can also enjoy a free tea and coffee and young children will love the FREE Christmas Character Hunt.
“Christmas shopping needs to be fun and it’s great to see so many children enjoying themselves at our stores. We do our best to keep our prices as low as we can as we know many families find Christmas tough and we’re proud to say this is the fourth year we have been offering a 6ft to 7ft Christmas tree in November for £19.95 so we are trying hard to offer great value in difficult times.”
Plants Galore are packed with everything you need for Christmas and your garden and are open every day with late night opening between Friday 24th November to December 10th. Visit www.growndirect.co.uk for all store information, maps and opening times.
“As a company we need to pay tribute to all our hardworking staff for setting up such great Christmas displays and for creating a really fun atmosphere in store even on the busiest days. It's great fun selling Xmas trees at Christmas but it’s also very hard physical work handling 25,000 Christmas Trees, so we are lucky to have superb staff and managers across the business.”
