IN ADVERSE conditions, Minehead Bowls Club A team narrowly lost to Taunton; winning on one rink and only going down by one shot on both the other two rinks.

The B team, only playing to 10 ends due to the exceptionally windy and wet conditions, won convincing on one rink but also lost on two. Unfortunately, there was no county league match for the ladies on Saturday while the men travelled to Yeovil but suffered a defeat on both rinks. On Sunday, June 16, the ladies played in the Southey Trophy at North Petherton competing in singles, pairs, triples and rinks.  They pulled off wins in the singles and pairs but losses in the triples and rinks. It meant that Minehead sadly do not progress to the next round, losing on shot difference.

On the same day the men travelled to Ilminster to play in the second round of the Double Rink competition but, disappointingly, were beaten convincingly. On Monday, June 17, the men played Williton in the Jack Stephens.  Away at Williton Minehead secured a win and loss but narrowly lost at home by one shot on one rink and three on the second.  At the same time the ladies played in the Evelyn Yandle competition at Williton, drawing against Watchet 17-17 and beating Williton convincingly 23-7.

Meanwhile, Minehead ladies secured their first win in the Women's County League v North Petherton away at the beginning of the month, winning on two out of the three rinks and by seven shots.  This was repeated on the 8th with another win overall by just 1 shot with a win, a loss and a draw.

Capitalising on their success, they were drawn against Watchet in the Top Club on June 7 and narrowly beat Watchet away with a win in the singles, pairs and rinks.  They now go through to play Ilminster at home.  Having not done so well in the local Evelyn Yandle on 3rd June (losing on both rinks), Minehead won on both rinks on the 10th at home, The men also started well in June securing a close win in the Double Rink away against the City of Wells.  It was a tie on both rinks after 18 ends with a one-shot win in the extra end. They also secured a win by two shots in the local Jack Stevens against Watchet on 3rd June by 2 shots.  On the 10th v Porlock they won on two rinks at home but lost on two away.  Then on 8th the men secured a big win claiming all 12 points against North Petherton B at home in the County League.
