ASHBRITTLE ended their championship-winning season in the first division of the West Somerset Cricket League with a 61-run home victory over Bagborough.

Batting first after winning the toss, Ashbrittle piled up 299 for the loss of six wickets in their 40 overs. Steve Grant led the spree with 67 runs off 50 balls, while skipper Luke Williams scored 60 off 50 balls with 11 fours, Wilf Burns-Cox 52 and Sam Sheikh 50.

It was a tough day for Bagborough’s bowlers with Matthew Refill taking 3-54, Blake Jones 1-47, Paul York-Smith 1-68 and David Stirzaker 1-31. In reply, Bagbrough were all out for 238 in 38.1 overs with Tom Eve being their top scorer with a run-a-ball 64, his innings containing 11 fours. Henry Stirzaker scored 41, Craig Swinburne 36 and Jed Glanville 21. Callum White took 2-67, Williams 2-4 and Burns-Cox 2-16. 

This match ended a splendid season for Ashbrittle who were comfortable winners of the championship and came close to pulling off a double, losing out to Over Stowey in the final of the KO Cup. 

Ashbrittle played 18 league games, winning 15, losing two with one being cancelled, and led the table almost throughout the season.
