CUTCOMBE made the trip to play at Cannington in Division Three of the West Somerset Cricket League on Saturday where, after being invited to bat first, openers Mark Matravers with 35 and skipper Ben Gregory who hit 22 gave their side a good start before both fell to Dave Hoveman, who went onto enjoy a very successful afternoon.
Robin Howe came in at number three and scored 13 before becoming another victim of Hoveman and when he was out there was little further resistance from the Cutcombe batters and they were all out for 88 in 26.2 overs.
Hoveman ended with the impressive figures of nine overs, two of which were maidens, seven wickets for 19 runs. When Cannington replied opener Drew Guppy was the first wicket to fall, leg before to James Gregory who also accounted for Lee Hayman for 11.
Ben Pursey claimed the wicket of the other opener Christian Cullum for 17 and Harry Lacey bowled George King, but then Russell Windows stepped up and hit an unbeaten 45 to see Cannington to a six wicket victory in 23 overs. James Gregory with two for 20 was the pick of the Cutcombe bowlers.
