RAIN did its best to spoil the party on Friday evening at Taunton causing the Vitality Blast T20 match between Somerset and Kent to be reduced a five overs per side contest. Somerset openers Will Smeed and Tom Banton scored 11 off the first over, five to each batter, before the rain started to fall and the covers came on. After a number of attempts to re-start,  the match eventually resumed at 9.02pm as a five over contest, which meant Somerset had another 24 balls to face. Smeed hit the first ball after the resumption high into the air where the catch was taken. Tom Kohler- Cadmore came in and smote his first ball for six, took four off the next and after two overs Somerset had moved onto 24. With the total on 31 off 2.4 overs Banton was caught out in the deep for seven which brought Lewis Gregory to the wicket. Kohler-Cadmore blasted further boundaries and by the end of the third over Somerset had moved 37 for two. The first ball of the fourth over Kohler-Cadmore launched high over the the mid wicket boundary for six but when Gregory attempted to hit Gilchrist over long on he was caught by Bartlett for eight. With the score on 49 Kohler-Cadmore was caught at long on by Joe Denly for 24 followed by Ben Green run out off the penultimate ball of the innings, and then Abell run out off the last ball as Somerset ended their innings on 55 for six. In reply the Kent total required had been adjusted to 61 off their 30 balls. Riley Meredith opened the bowling to Zak Crawley and off the second ball he was run out by Kasey Aldridge the sub fielder.  Meredith struck with the fourth ball of the over when Daniel Bell- Drummond was caught at backward square leg by Jake Ball as Kent ended the over nine for two. Ball bowled the second over and he had O’Riordan caught at long off by Abell and by the end of the second over Kent had moved to 18 for two. Meredith’s second over was quick and accurate and only conceded seven runs leaving Kent needing 36 to win off 12 balls. Billings threatened briefly but on 16 he chanced a second run to Abell who’s accurate throw saw him run out making Kent 34 for four.  Going into the final over bowled by Green the visitors  needed 26 off six balls. Green conceded one off the first, four off the second and one off the third. His fourth ball had Joey Evison caught by Smeed, after which it didn’t really matter as Kent ended their innings on 46 for five giving Somerset victory by 14 runs.
