SUZANNE Richards, well known in West Somerset through her work as a sports coach has added another qualification to her repertoire enabling her to coach another sport.

Suzanne, who hails from Dunster where she grew up in a cricketing family, but never played the game, takes up the story.

“In 2024 I volunteered to help with All Stars in 2024 because they were struggling for people to run the course. I very much enjoyed running the course last year but having never played cricket I felt I needed a further understanding of the Cricket Skills.

“I then noticed some funding which was being offered to do further Cricket Qualifications through the Somerset Cricket Foundation. I applied in October last year and was successful which then led to me enrolling in the Cricket Foundation Course at the SCC in February 2025.

“This links in well with my job as a Sports Coach who goes into a number of schools delivering a range of PE and Clubs. I am hoping to use this opportunity to bring the Minehead Cricket Club and the West Somerset Schools closer together and offer a pathway to children who enjoy Cricket in School and would like to take part in further coaching and games at the Club.”

The newly qualified coach will be putting her expertise into immediate action over the upcoming February Half term holiday when she is running All Stars sessions (aimed at 5 to 8 year olds) at Dunster First School on Thursday February 20th, at the following times: Reception age pupils 9.15- 10.15 am; Year One and Two pupils 10.15-11.15am; Year Three and Four pupils 11.15-12.15pm.

The cost to attend is £1 per session and parents/carers will need to stay with their children throughout the session.
